Salis are a musical group hailing from Sardinia that revolves around brothers Francesco and Antonio’s nucleus, whose family name gives the band their monicker; after the 1971 release of the debut LP “Sa vida ita est” they lived for a short period in Lombardy, where they managed to play with PFM and Mauro Pagani among others; once back home, they released a second LP – “Seduto sull’alba a guardare”, effectively a solo album by Antonello Salis – in 1974.

“Dopo il buio la luce” will have to wait another five years to be written and published by a completely revisited line-up; but 1979, as we know, had been a ‘black year’ for the progressive rock, not only in Italy. This third Salis’ album is indeed beautiful and paradoxically their most ‘progressive’ and original ever, almost entirely instrumental: nevertheless, like several other releases in the same field, it went forgotten for nearly two decades.

I Salis sono una formazione proveniente dalla Sardegna che ruota intorno al nucleo dei fratelli Francesco e Antonio, dal cui cognome ha origine il nome del gruppo; dopo la pubblicazione nel 1971 dell’esordio “Sa vida ita est” vissero per un breve periodo Lombardia, dove ebbero modo di suonare tra gli altri con Mauro Pagani della PFM e, una volta tornati in ‘patria’, pubblicarono un secondo LP – “Seduto sull’alba a guardare”, a tutti gli effetti un disco solista di Antonello Salis – nel 1974.

“Dopo il buio la luce” dovrà attendere altri cinque anni per essere realizzato e pubblicato da una formazione completamente rimaneggiata; ma il 1979, come sappiamo, è un anno nero per il rock progressivo, non solo in Italia. Questo terzo album dei Salis è infatti bellissimo, paradossalmente il più ‘progressivo’ e originale da loro realizzato, quasi interamente strumentale: ciò nonostante, al pari di diversi altri titoli dello stesso calibro, fu presto dimenticato per quasi due decenni.

Brilliant retro/symphonic/folky prog from Norway. Pastoralia was great, but I think I like this even better! This album sounds as if they made it for me, simply love it! If you're imagining Mirage-era Camel with Norwegian woods, er, words, you'll might guess what to expect. At least, that's how I would describe it. Or just check the liner notes here. This might be the least folky of the Wobbler releases and I wasn't sure about it at all. After a few listens however I'm loving the inventiveness and the endless melodies, all driven along by Kristian Hultgren's wonderful percussive bass. PartTimeZombie
